I am a computer engineering student, and I am doing a project based on HTML and CSS. While trying to get information about certain things, I came across SHTML. I want to know what SHTML is and why is it used.

SHTML is an HTML file that includes instructions by servers. This file is used to link files that have the server instructions so that all files can be loaded as soon as possible. This type of file carries the extensions. SHTML or. SSI. The contents of this file are decided by the administrator, whether to have the links or executable code. Overall, it contains additional information for the server when it is passed to the user and server as additional information to it at go time

If you want to enable SSI on your server, then you need to refer to the documentation of your web server. If you want to open this file, you can try using Sublime text editor available for respective platforms.

Information On SHTML, What Is It Used For And Why

An SHTML file (.shtml) is also an HTML file but it includes SSI or server-side includes or in other words, server instructions. The file is also known sometimes as SSI and is similar to an ASP file. The file is used to associate files that include server instructions and that’s why all files load as fast as possible.

For a web server to identify an SSI-enabled HTML file and perform these instructions, either the file name should end with a special extension name by default are .shtml, .stm, and .shtm or the server is configured to allow this and set the execution bit of the file.
