When play video on Microsoft Movie Maker I get error

Hi Techyv friends,

There are no issues about playing the Microsoft Movie maker on my Windows 7 machine. But at times when I try to play a video or try to import any mp3 file, I get an error message

RegSvr32

The module “quartz.dll” was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code x800700005.

For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term.

Do I need to be concerned about this issue? This error goes off, if I reboot the machine and am not sure, if I need to do something, since it occurs intermittently.

Errors with quartz.dll,  usually come side by side with errors within the registry. It could mean that you might have just uninstalled a media editor application recently, and the deletion was either discontinued or truncated, leaving errant traces within your registry that gets triggered when running other media editors such as MS Movie Maker or DiVx Converter, which utilizes the quartz.dll.

You should try to avoid getting these errors because they will start to slow your computing speed down and even contribute to hardware crashes. I would suggest running Registry Mechanic or TuneUp Utilities 2011, to fix and optimize your registry, to avoid getting these errors in the future.

Hello Bruce,

That is a registry entry issue and therefore you will need to run a registry entry application that will resolve those issues. The best application that I will recommend to you is CCleaner which you can download for free from the internet. Just install it on your computer and then use it for cleaning the registry problems.

Since the problem is with Windows Movie Maker, unfortunately, there’s no way to uninstall and install it back. Unlike Windows Media Player that can be disabled temporarily and then enable back, with Windows Movie Maker there’s no option in the Windows Component section which will allow it to be disabled which is like uninstalling it.

Since you are using Windows Vista, try updating it to Service Pack 2 to update all of its components including Windows Movie Maker. Download and update your operating system to Windows Vista Service Pack 2. This is the latest and last Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows Vista. See if updating the Service Pack fixes the problem.

Another way of checking the problem is by running the System File Checker utility. Click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Accessories”, and then “Command Prompt”. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. This will check the operating system’s protected system files for invalid files. It will replace incorrect versions with correct ones for your operating system.

Using the SFC utility may require you to insert the Windows Vista setup disc.
