SATA port problem for accessing HDD

My computer's motherboard is P4M900M3. It has two SATA and one IDE port.

But now the SATA ports does not work. What should I do?

I have tried to clean the motherboard, but the problem did not solve.

I have also tried to update BOIS.

SATA port not working.

SATA or the Serial Advance Technology Attachment is the current technology used for today.

There are options on the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) or the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semi Conductor) set up to enable and disable SATA functionality.

So when your SATA is not working, try to check on your BIOS setup if it is enabled or disabled. If it is disabled change the settings to enable so that the device may work.

There are some instances that the problem does not come from the slot or the socket. Sometimes it is caused by the cable connecting the hard disk drive and the motherboard. Just try to change the cable to make it sure that the problem comes from the cable and not on the motherboard socket.

Another instance is when the hard disk drive is dead or busted. Hard disk drive might be damaged also. It has an independent circuit that drives the disks inside the hard disk drive. So you must be sure also that the hard disk drive is working properly. Try another hard disk if you are not sure.

If you can’t really use your SATA port in your motherboard, since the IDE are working, we have an alternative for that. Purchase a SATA to IDE (vise versa) adapter so that you can connect your SATA drive to your IDE ports. That one will cost estimated more or less 10 dollars. These are your ultimate solution or else purchase a new motherboard.

Hello Miltonabraham,

In this case the problem could be occurring due to a mix up of the jumpers that are required to connect the SATA drive and the IDE drive.

For the IDE drive you must make sure that the jumpers have been set properly for the drives to work. You should note that IDE drives have Master and Slave settings, and therefore you can only have 1 Master and 1 Slave connection on a single cable.

For most drives, you will see the jumper settings printed on the label, and some even have a manual that comes with the drive that shows the settings so as to help you with the configuration of the jumpers.

So just check and make sure that you have the jumpers connected properly for both the SATA and the IDE drives.
