Text and Image in my LCD monitor looks fuzzy

My old CRT monitor is giving me a problem these past few days. I decided to replace it with an LCD monitor so I bought a new one from a computer store, I saw the monitor displays a clear text and crisp images but when I got home and setup the LCD monitor I noticed the text and images where not as good as it displays on the store. The texts and images looks fuzzy so I went back to the store and asked to replace it with another one. I set up again this new monitor and the results are still the same. I tried upgrading the driver of my video card hoping that it will do something with the new monitor and yet no luck. Any ideas about this? Thanks in advance!

A fuzzy monitor is annoying indeed.  I shall try to save you money and time on fixing it.  There are a couple reasons your monitor might be fuzzy.  The first is that the resolution is not accurate, meaning what you are seeing is not to the full size of your display and not to the specifications of your monitor.  Right click on an empty part of your desktop and then go to the graphics setting and change the resolution.  Another problem that could make your screen fuzzy is an outlet that has electrical surges.  Try to change the power source or outlet. Lastly, the monitor has a signal frequency as do all electronics and if there are other electronics around it, they might be interfering with the signal.  If there is nothing creating interference, then double check and make sure all of the connections are nice and tight and untangle your cords as much as possible and keep the area clean and neat.  If none of these work, then the original monitor might have had something wrong with it and this one might have something wrong with it also.  It is rare, but it does happen.   Hope this helps.

Hi Beverly.

What's screen size of your monitor?  Unlike CRT monitors, LCD monitors have what is known as a "native resolution" or a single fixed resolution.  This native resolution usually depends on the size of the monitor.  15" LCD monitors typically has a native resolution of 1024×768.  If you set the resolution to 800×600, you get fuzzy text and pictures like the photo below shows.

So here's what you do:

1.  Find out what your LCD monitor's native resolution is from the User's Manual.

2.  From within Windows, right-click on an empty spot on your desktop and go to the menu that adjusts you screen resolution. Select the native resolution that you got from Step 1.

3.  Press the auto adjust button of your monitor to let it adjust itself to the new resolution.  All LCD monitors have this function.

4.  If the images and text are still fuzzy, adjust the refresh rate.  Your options are usually 70Hz, 75Hz, 85Hz.  Pick the one that gives you the most satisfactory image quality.
