You may be referring to the framework hierarchy that you see when you get to device manager. I have attached an image to confirm if that’s the same view you were at.  When upgrading or changing your sound or audio card, consider first if you need a stand-alone card or something that is built-in to your motherboard. Secondly, ask what is the new sound card for if your current audio card works fine. Lastly, it may not be a new sound card that you need, instead new speakers.

Every modern motherboard nowadays includes a built-in sound card as well as video card. You don’t have to purchase a separate sound card because it has one built-in. You simply need to install its driver to make it functioning. If you are using the built-in sound card, it is recommended to buy a separate or dedicated sound card after several months or years to avoid damaging the built-in device.

If you continue to use the built-in sound card and it gets broken in the long run, the motherboard will be affected. This also goes to the built-in video card. Buying dedicated devices for these two hardware components is a must to prolong the life of the motherboard. Now, if you want to upgrade your sound card, you need to check the available slots on your motherboard.

Sound cards nowadays are available as PCI and PCI Express. The PCI Express version will not fit the slot for the PCI version and vice versa.
