I hope you are using Windows 7 as that is the most commonly one used everywhere. By going through the following steps you will be easily able to get your laptop modified to connect to wifi automatically.

STEP 1:

Left click on the wireless connectivity present in the taskbar. An upwards panel would appear as shown in the below picture:

STEP 2:

Right click on the connection to which you want your laptop be connected automatically & click "Properties". A window like this would open as shown:

STEP 3:

Click on "Connection" tab and you will get this window in front of you:

The first option "Connect automatically when this network is in range" would be unchecked. Kindly click on the checkbox besides it so a tick may appear just like shown in the above picture and click on the below OK 🙂 thats all 🙂

The wireless connections you are referring to are the networks or Wi-Fi networks the laptop connected to before. A laptop normally connects to the internet via Wi-Fi because of its design. It is designed to be portable that’s why it is small so you can bring it anywhere.

And because it is portable, connecting to the internet has to be done wirelessly because you cannot always be carrying a cable on the side. When your laptop connects to a Wi-Fi network, the network itself will be stored on the machine so that next time when you are near that network, the machine can always easily connect.

As you bring your laptop to different places and connects to different Wi-Fi networks, all those networks will remain on the machine. And that’s the reason why you see so many connections on your laptop but you cannot to them automatically. Your laptop can connect to only one network at a time. It cannot connect to all networks simultaneously because that’s not possible.
