Receiving error 0x80070005 on my Vista.

I have recently installed a windows home server in addition to a Vista PC.

The Vista PC is connected using the “home server connector software”.

Whenever I try to get access to the shared folders on the server, I got the following error message.

Now I have no idea that what is this error, what are its reasons, causes and ultimately its solutions.

I have been receiving this error since day one and not as a sudden error.

The error remains even if I turn off the firewall in Vista. Also,I am only able to read folder files and not to delete or write.

So, can anyone please help me out as I want to be able to share all the content in these folders throughout the house?

Receiving error 0x80070005 on my Vista.

The error 0x80070005 mostly occurs when a scheduled task in Task Scheduler becomes corrupted. The error message usually shows “Access Denied”. It is far clear that the error is about security issue,and it finds an error in the access.

Hallo Fred,

To resolve that issue, you will need to do the following:

  • First, you will need to download AccessChk, a tool that will enable you to evaluate the access level of the specific users or groups which include the files, directories, Registry keys, windows services as well as global objects.
  • After that you will save the zip file on your desktop, and then extract the file:
  • Next you will open the AccessChk folder, and then hold the shift-key and then right click in the window. 
  • You will then choose "Open Command Prompt Here".
  • A command prompt window will come up with a similar prompt: C:Users<USERNAME>Desktopaccesschk>
  • After that you will need to type the following command and then press Enter: accesschk.exe -s -n "nt servicetrustedinstaller" -k "hklmsoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionComponent Based Servicing" >accesskchk.txt
  • Next you will close the Command Prompt Window, and then open the Accesschk folder on your desktop.
  • After that you will double click on Accesschk.txt to open Notepad.

If the Vista PC is trying to access the shared folder on the server PC, make sure the resource or the shared folder is literally “shared.” If the supposed shared folder is not actually “shared,” it will not appear on the Vista PC. Also, make sure the folder is not password protected.

If the shared folder is password-protected, it will prevent the Vista PC from easily accessing the folder without the password. If you need to protect the folder with a password, you have to map the shared folder to the Vista PC with the correct password otherwise the resource will not be accessible.

Both PCs should also be on the same workgroup so the machines can see each other on the network. If the other machine is set with a different workgroup, they will not be able to communicate with one another on the network.
