Hi guys. I want to encrypt my 500 GB Hitachi hard drive with Bitlocker.

Where can I download Bitlocker and what kind of encryption does it use?

How do I install it on a Windows 7 64 bit system and does it have an easy to use UI?

Can it also encrypt a USB thumb drive?

BitLocker comes pre-installed with the Ultimate and Enterprise editions of Windows 7.

If it isn't enabled, you can follow these steps to enable it.

It encrypts using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) in cipher-block chaining mode with a 128-bit or 256-bit key.

It has a straightforward, easy-to-use UI.

It also has support for thumb drives with BitLocker To Go.

Hello,

How are you doing? Hope all is well with you.

BitLocker is not included in Windows 7 Home Premium and it cannot be downloaded or installed. You will need to use a third-party product like TrueCrypt. It is only available in Windows Ultimate and Enterprise Editions.

You can download Bitlocker on this site

By default BitLocker uses the Advanced Encryption Standard encryption algorithm in Block cipher mode of operation mode with a 128 bit key and combined with the Elephant diffuser which adds disk encryption-specific security that is not provided by AES. Also, BitLocker is able to encrypt using a 256 bit key when configured.

Unfortunately, BitLocker is not for all Microsoft Windows users and is only available to selected operating systems.

BitLocker is available only in Windows Vista and Windows 7 Ultimate and or Enterprise editions so if you are not using any of these two versions of Microsoft Windows you won’t be able to use BitLocker.

But even if you are using one of these operating systems, you may still not find it because BitLocker is not enabled by default and can only be used if you enable it manually.

To activate it, click Start, Control Panel, System and Security, BitLocker Drive Encryption, and then Turn On BitLocker. To use it, your hard drive must be using the NTFS file system because FAT32 file systems are not supported. It also has several other requirements but don’t worry, the system will inform you if you can use BitLocker or not.

Encrypting several files and folders is different from encrypting the whole drive because it will consume more time than with few files only. Watch “How to use Bitlocker to encrypt your entire drive – tutorial by TechyV” to know the basics.

Encryption is a great way to secure one’s privacy.

I wanted to encrypt some drives on my PC and could not find the way to encrypt the whole drives.

Then I found Bit Locker in my PC pre-installed with my Windows 7 Ultimate. I could not understand whether it was safe or not.

Here I found the explanation that Bit Locker does encrypt data. I do not think it is bad to use Bit Locker. The only problem is the drive file system. It sounds bitter that only NTFS format is utilizable but does not matter.

I love using Bit Locker. I especially want to thank Sharath for his nice video.
