Using black cartridge printer ink instead of colored

I have a printer (Canon) that uses 2 cartridges.  I want to print documents in black ink only.  However, when I print them, the printer always uses the colored cartridge.  How do I set it up so that it only uses the black ink for printing documents?

Hello Tristan,

You can change the settings by going to page setup or any similar option, depending on what software you are using to print your document. When you have found that option, try looking for the option of which color to use, either black or colored. If you are attempting to print when your color cartridge is empty, or simply just conserving it for other reasons, "Cannot Print" message will be displayed. When this happens, just click on Stop or Exit on your printer to stop the print job since the printer will stop all functions anyway. If the message still keeps on showing, try replacing your blank cartridges.

I hope this helps.
