I believe I will be able to help you solve your problem since it has been experienced before and solved. What you simply need to do to solve this problem is to follow these steps.

Ensure you are logged in to your PC as administrator. Also ensure you don't have any other anti-virus installed in your computer.

If there is another anti-virus installed in your computer, you can uninstall it with an Uninstaller and ensure to delete all files in the registry.

If this doesn't work, Go to Administration and click on Manage groups. Search for the group AVG and select it to go to properties.

Click on the option under group member.

Logoff and restart your computer and try re updating AVG.

It should work.
