What are the steps to partition an HD if I want to install openSUSE, like GNOME or KDE, when I already have Windows installed? Also, how do I install the repositories after installation?
Steps to partition an HD if I want to install openSUSE
It is very simple. If you have installed windows first then you can easily create a separate partition with enough space to install opensuse package in it.
-
Go to disk management in your Windows.
-
Here if you have any "unallocated space" then make a separate partition from it.
-
If you have no space then shrink one of your drives by right click on them and shrink them. Define the size in MBs.
-
Once done create a separate partition from the space you got after shrinking.
-
Do not put anything else in that drive.
-
Insert the installation disk of opensuse.
-
select that drive which you just made by following the above steps.
-
Proceed to the installation.
After the installation is done every time you boot your computer, it will ask you whether you want to boot in windows or opensuse.
