Hi,

I learned that Net BEUI is an enhanced version of NetBios Protocol used for Windows Networking.

I would like to know what are the advantage and disadvantages of using Net BEUI and what does it have that NetBIOS don't have?

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Should I Use Net BEUI?

Dear friend

  • NetBEUI's advantages include:
    1. Its small stack size, which is important for MS-DOS-based computers.
    2. It's speed of data transfer on the network medium (probably the fastest possible protocol).
    3. Its compatibility with all Microsoft-based networks.
    4. For small LANs NetBEUI is blessing.
  • The major disadvantages of NetBEUI are:
    1. It doesn't support routing which is the only WAN-connectivity standard.
    2. NetBEUI will work on Microsoft's networks only. Other networks cannot use this protocol.
  • NetBEUI formalizes the frame format (or arrangement of information in a data transmission) that was not specified as part of NetBIOS.
  • NetBEUI is the best performance choice for communication within a single LAN. Because, like NetBIOS, it does not support the routing of messages to other networks.
