Press F2 option to enter setup

I have an laptop with Corei3 2.4 GHz processor and 4 GB amount of RAM. I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit operating system. Recently I noticed that my laptop doesn’t boot automatically anymore.

It always stops the operation after displaying the press f2 option to enter setup. After that, nothing happens anymore, the display remains black until I have to press any key. It’s only then that it continues to boot up and displays the OS.

I thought it was a software issue so tried to format the hard disk and so I did. After formatting the hard disk, the same problem occurs even if I changed the boot priority to the optical drive, still it does not continue booting unless I press any key on the keyboard.  Please help me with this problem.

An error message prompting you to enter the BIOS or press F2 most likely means that there were some changes made to the computer or that the CMOS or the system battery.

Have you installed other hardware recently? If so then the BIOS is showing you this message so you can check if the hardware is being detected. Save any changes then restart your computer to see if it fixes the error. If not then check the CMOS/ battery.

This controls the date/time settings. Basically, if it is dead or falling out, it does not remember the date/time settings each time you boot up the computer prompting you to enter the BIOS again.

To check if this is a faulty battery, you may try to go to BIOS to check the date/time settings, if it’s showing an incorrect date then you will need to correct it. Restart the computer again and see if you’ll receive the same message, if it does then it means you will need to replace your CMOS/ battery.
