Hi. I have been trying to host my Active Directory in the cloud but every time I do that, I get an error saying “configuration not supported”. I have tried getting help from a lot of sources but to no good. Can you please tell me about the minimum requirements?

Pre-requisites to Host Active Directory In The Cloud

Hey. The hosting of active directory in the cloud requires you to be very clear with the concept and minimum requirements that it requires. A very good option for hosting active directory in the cloud is Windows Azure. The pre-requisites for running Windows Server Active Directory are-

1) DNS: Ensure that you bring your own DNS configuration while you provision your virtual environment on Windows Azure because it does not support all the requirements to run AD with Dynamic Domain Name System.

2) IP Address: Dynamic addresses are assigned to the dynamic controllers that run on Windows Azure. Before we provision a domain controller VM, we must provision a Windows Azure Virtual Network so as to create a dynamic networking environment for the domain controllers.

3) Disk: To prevent data loss and to improve the virtual hard disk access speeds, additional virtual hard disks should be attached to Windows Azure VM for host caching and to make them appropriate for important hard disks. Thus, a second empty disk must be attached to our VM, which can be formatted and used for apt folder locations.
