I’m not sure why you are getting this error because updating the Mac OS X operating system is very simple just like in Microsoft Windows where you just need to check for any available update and when the result comes in just install them. Because you are updating to Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion, I assume you originally have the Mac OS X 10.7 version.

If you currently have something like Mac OS X 10.6+ Snow Leopard and you want to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion, I think it would be best to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 first and just update it afterwards to version 10.7.5 or higher whichever is available via Software Update. If you already have Mac OS X 10.7, you can update to version 10.7.5 by clicking on the Apple menu and selecting Software Update. See image.

On the next screen, you will see all the available updates for your version. Just install them and restart your computer to finish the update. Also, any other update available for the programs installed on your computer will also appear in the result. This is best especially if one of your apps is encountering a problem.
