Old laptop asked to restart everytime it is turned on

Hi, I have an old laptop and it never gave me any problems until now.  Whenever I turn it on, an error would occur telling me to restart again.  I cannot use it since I am told to do this every time I open my laptop.

Is there any way I can save this laptop or should I start looking for another one?

Hallo Charles,

Since you have said that your laptop is old then it seems you have been using it for a long time. It may be having problems with the BIOS which could be failing, or the processor and other devices like the fan have become faulty.

So what I will advice is that you do a thorough check of the system devices from the hard disks, processors, motherboards, to fans and other components to find out if they are faulty so that you can rectify them.

You should also check to ensure that the operating system does not have problems, for instance being affected by the programs you installed recently or updates which you might need to remove if they are the ones causing the problem.

If your laptop keeps restarting after opening it, try starting it using the last known good configuration option. Restart your computer then press F8 before the Windows logo appears. In “Advanced Boot Options” screen, scroll down and select “Last known good configuration” then hit Enter. See if you can login with this method.

If this doesn’t work, check the error message and see if it points to a particular program. If the error message indicates a problem with a specific application, restart the computer in Safe Mode then uninstall that program. Repeat the same steps to access “Advanced Boot Options”. Next, in “Advanced Boot Options” screen, select “Safe Mode” then hit Enter. Log in with your administrator account.

Once you are logged in, click “Start”, “Control Panel”, then “Programs and Features”. Scroll down and select the program mentioned in the error message then uninstall it. If you still need to use it, install the latest.
