I am using my laptop of 'Compaq' for a year and I wanted some scanning works to be done. Today, when I tried to connect my scanner modeled 'Brother DCPJ100' then my computer refused to accept it. It never shows any thing about scanner, and it just remains as it is. It doesn't show ant sign of external drive or device being connected  as of some USB's. Please help me with this problem, I am very frustrated with it since the scanner works with others PC's.

Check to see if the printer driver installed correctly, as sometimes the full installation for the original Brother Printer driver doesn’t completely install and instead the Windows built-in driver is installed instead. It is recommended that you use the original Brother Printer.

Follow the steps below to see if the original printer driver has been installed.

  1. Open Control Panel and click on Hardware & Sound > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the Brother DCPJ100 Printer.
  3. Choose Printing Preferences.
  1. If you see an Advanced / Support tab or button when you click on Printing Preferences, then the original Brother Printer drivers have been installed. Click OK to exit.
  2. If you don’t see the Advanced / Support tab or button, then the original Brother Printer has not been installed.

To install original Brother drivers, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Brother website by clicking here to download the latest driver
  2. Open Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager.
  1. Click on View > Show Hidden Devices.

  1. Click on Printers and right-click on the Brother Printer.
  2. Click Update Driver Software.
  1. Click on Browse my Computer for Driver Software
  1. Click on the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer option.
  2. Click Next.

  1. On the next screen that opens up, click Have Disk.

  1. Click on the Browse button
  1. From the Copy manufacturer’s Files From, browse for the directory where you downloaded the Driver from in Step 1 and click Open.
  1. Click in the OK button.
  1. The original Brother Printer driver installation is complete. Click close.
