My laptop battery stopped charging a week ago. So, it has to be connected to an adapter at all times when it’s on. I looked around and learned that my adapter, battery or motherboard might be the cause of all my troubles. But going by my simple hardware knowledge, the problem cannot be the adapter. Then, someone told me today that the charging system could be the one that’s causing all this. Could anyone please advice which of the three is the most likely cause of my troubles is?

As you are saying, your laptop is now running on direct power supply by always connecting an adaptor; it seems that the adaptor is not one that is faulty. It’s your battery or charging system which is faulty.
The most likely cause may have been that, your charging system has faced a hazard by a shock of over voltage or charging throughout a long time period. If you used to charge your laptop for a long time, the charging system could have been damaged.
Or another likely cause may be the battery damage. Lithium ion battery’s life depends on its charging and discharging cycles. It is best to discharge a Lithium ion battery after a certain period. So first of all, check your batteries plugging into another (same model) laptop that if it works. If it does, then you can be pretty sure that the fault is in charging system.

If your Laptop battery is not charging properly then there may be drivers required to manage your Laptop battery power. You can find these drivers from the device manager option which appears in the properties of the My Computer. The second reason may the problem with the AC adaptor, you can check this issue by changing your current AC Adapter with the new one and i am sure that your problem will be resolved. If the problem will not resolve by it then try to pull the battery of your laptop out and push back to in and adjust it properly. B y these simple steps your battery charging issue will be resolved.

Possible cause why my laptop is not charging
First give format and install a new os. Than check it again that. If this doesn't solves the problem then your laptop's battery was damaged. You need to replace a new battery.

First, you should check your battery and charger. Maybe this is the main reason why your laptop is not charging.  Try to provide and test a new battery or a charger as well. If this two didn’t help, go to the service center for them to check it. Don't mess with it anymore, it might get broken more than it is right now. Hope this piece of an advice would help. Thanks!
