There is actually a study conducted by Trend Micro, a security vendor and developer of Titanium Maximum Security and Titanium Internet Security, which is set to find out which mobile operating system is best suitable for small and medium-sized businesses or SMBs. Among the operating systems where they conducted the research include Windows Phone, BlackBerry OS, Android, and Apple iOS. And below are the results:

  • BlackBerry OS – this mobile operating system scored well across the board of researchers thinking that this is the most mature of all the platforms. It has a corporate-grade security and manageability and they make it as the “platform the option of choice for the most stringent mobile roles”.
  • Apple iOS – researchers ranked Apple’s fifth generation iOS as the principal contender for business friendliness against BlackBerry OS. The report says that Apple’s strict control over the application and hardware ecosystem made it a security plus. But even if this is a positive point, the report also points out that Apple’s mobile device management is a weakness.
  • Android – the result was kind of negative as it says that Android’s major weaknesses are its security and manageability. Even if Android’s recent add-on of device encryption support is a major plus, the app store and the consistent control of OS versioning are major disadvantages.
  • Windows Phone – although Windows Phone 8 has just hit the market, it was Windows Phone 7.5 that got evaluated by the researchers where they noted that this operating system is very new to have a dependable gauge of its performance.

This is the graphical chart of the result of the research made by Trend Micro on the four major mobile platforms.
