Linux 13 mate features, specs and comparison to Linux 13 cinnamon

Hi there everyone! I just asked my father to allow me for installing the latest Linux 13 MATE into my computer, but my father is saying that Linux 13 cinnamon is better than the mate version. Is there anyone who can give me a detailed information on the specs and features of Linux 13 MATE and bring a comparison between the MATE version and the CINNAMON version? Thanks for the help!

Hello Harford,

I have read through your question. I think I can make some points of them to differentiate. MATE is a desktop environment forked from GNOME 2, while Cinnamon is a fork of GNOME (3) Shell. Obviously the GNOME 3 desktop will offer you latest and nice technology and appearance. Mate is a old version now. The upgraded Cinnamon is aristocrat and nice. The Cinnamon has some cool effects that are not available for default Mate installation. So forget about updating your desktop in future. But the difference is only in appearance. So you can try Mate if you want. But I think Cinnamon is of course a better choice.
