I installed my printer because it says "You system is not compatible enough" or something but it worked perfectly when it was windows 98.
I'm Printer model is HP DeskJet 3550. Modem (internet) : Motorola (Cable Modem) Surfboard Sb5100.

What do I do to get this going smoothly?

Hi there Dominic,

Apleasant day to you. I want you to know that HP DeskJet 3550 is not compatible Xandos Linux.  HP did not made any drive for Linux Operating system. You can try using gimp-print though. To be able to install your HP Printer on your computer, you need to change your operating system.

Otherwise, just change buy another printer that is compatible with your OS Xandros Linux. It really just depends on your decision or in what you are going to choose.

I hope that you learned something or got an idea with my solution.

Have a great day and happy weekend at the same time!

You need to get a driver for the printer that is compatible with Linux. if the driver worked for Window 98, its very unlikely that it will work for another operating system. You need to install the driver that is for Linux. If you have a CD that came with the printer then insert the CD and install the driver. Otherwise you will have to download from the internet

Go to the link above and you can download the driver for Linux. It has a driver for Linux as you can see in the link but I am to sure it will work for xandros Linux.

Hello Dominic,

It seems that your system has some compatibility issues with the Linux that you just installed, since you are saying the printer used to work well when you were using windows 98. Another thing that might be the possible problem is that the drivers that you are using are meant for windows 98, so you will need to get the Linux drivers for the HP printer that you are using and install them on your computer system.

I do not think the modem has any contribution to this problem. As long as your modem internet is connected and first then you should be able to browse. But you might just want to check the IP addresses and the browser proxy settings and ensure that they are configured properly.
