Here are the prerequisites if you want to update your operating system to Service Pack 3. If your Windows XP is not running on any Service Pack, you need to update your operating system to Service Pack 1a or Service Pack 2 before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3. This is required.

But if your Windows XP is running on Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1a, you can proceed on installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 without installing Service Pack 2 first. Also, before installing Service Pack 3, check if you have the following updates installed on your computer:

  • Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit
  • Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) 6.0 MUI pack (Update 925877 for Windows XP)

If you have one or both updates installed, you need to uninstall them first prior to installing Windows XP Service Pack 3. Click “Start”, “Control Panel” then “Add or Remove Programs”. Scroll down and select “Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit” or “Remote Desktop Connection” then click “Remove” and then follow the instructions.

If you have Norton 360 installed before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 and it stop working after the installation, just uninstall and reinstall the program. This should fix the problem.
