This is a common question for people using webcams. What your friend is experiencing is called pixelation, this is the term used when individual pixels (Squares) can be seen by the person viewing the image. This happens when an image with low resolution is displayed on a large monitor or display.Â
There is no fix to this as the problem lies with the webcam he/she is using as it is capturing a lower resolution than the display being used. Here is a review of 2013's best webcams, these cameras have resolutions of 720p and 1080p respectively.
