Hi People.  I'm a new user of Excel and I'd like someone to teach me on how to use it.  I need to learn about how to change columns, rows and how to input or program computations.  I'm trying to create a payroll basic format.  I have Microsoft Excel 2007 on a Windows XP 64 bit system.  Thanks.

Hello,

The best way to learn Microsoft Excel is by practicing it again and again. Try using it for your day to day calculations. I learnt how to use Microsoft Excel on the job as I had to deal with a number of calculations and spreadsheets.

To begin understanding the basics, try using the following tutorials:

Alternatively, you could always use the 'help' feature in Microsoft Excel to learn the commands.

Hope that helps!

Hi Caitlyn,

To start off with your payroll report, try using one of the default templates installed in your computer or search Office.com for more templates.  To do this, just click on the Office button and select 'New', then look for a template closest to what you need. Check out the formulas and the formatting used in those templates, that should give you ideas on how you would create your own.

As for learning Excel, make it a part of your daily life, learn a thing or two a day, a new function perhaps or a new way of doing things, you'll find yourself immersed in its vast functionalities and the next you know, you'll be using it with ease. Check out the help files (press F1 to get there quick), it contains all the basic things you need to get you started, or check different articles in websites to learn more, it's a lot of reading, i know, but you will be able to reap the benefits of it in the future.Good luck in your journey in learning Excel.

I hope I have helped you in a way.

Regards,

Laurie
