Well Eric, it depends on the editions of your windows. For windows xp, if you have the home edition then there are issues in joining the domain of a network. Same is the case with a windows 7 operating system. Win7 home edition doesn't let you join a domain and share resources such as Fax, scanner and printer etc. However, if you have the professional edition of the windows, then networking is not a problem.

You can easily configure your PCs to be on a same network and share all the data and resources with each other. You will need a router and create a homegroup and then do the process of Network sharing. You can set a password as well if you want to have a secured environment.

Do let me know the editions of your windows and i will get back to you with the screen shots of the whole process of sharing files between the PCs.

Hi Eric ,

I think you are having trouble with the stock windows sharing network between XP and 7 , its common since both are 2 different OS from Microsoft corporation. If their steps and ways didn't worked means its time to setup a third party application .

I recommend using Team viewer software , Its the best to get access to remotely a computer and also to access the data from the other PC and i found it very useful also .

Install it in both the PCs

Now check the username and the password of the teamviewer which is installed in one of the PCs where you want to remotely work on and then type the username in the PC you are currently working and then wait and then type the password .

Team Viewer helped a lot to complete the work for now. Also the procedure of creating a homegroup to connect both PCs enabled to configure what was desired.

Thanks to techyv for having such experts.
