Hello there,

Today I installed a new game on my PC, but when I tried to open the game my PC rebooted. I tried to run the game again and this error message box appeared. If I click OK nothing happens and if I open the game again, this error shows up. I can’t repair it because I don’t know how, so please help me to fix this error so I can play this game.

Thank you very much!

HMA.exe

If the file in error “hma.exe” or the game you are playing, since you did not mention the exact name, refers to the game “Hitman: Absolution”, make sure your operating system is supported. The game is for Windows Vista and Windows 7 only and will not work on Microsoft Windows XP and earlier.

Try running the following command in the command prompt with administrator rights:

  • sfc /scannow

After this, verify the game’s cache using Steam and it should fix the problem. See if this works for you. Also remember that when you do this, your hashstack will be gone. This error can also mean a DEP exception error which can happen if you are using x64 Microsoft Windows. If this happens and you are on 64-bit Windows Vista or Windows 7, try turning on or turning off DEP [Data Execution Prevention] in your operating system.

To do this, click Start, right-click Computer and select Properties. Select “Advanced system settings” under Tasks located on the left panel and then verify the User Account Control verification. Under Performance section, click Settings then select Data Execution Prevention tab. Select between “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only” and “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”. See image.

If you select the second option, click Add and then select the program you don’t want to use DEP, click OK all through out and restart your computer. Selecting the second option disables or turns off DEP on the program you selected. See if this works.
