ERROR_UNKNOWN_COMPONENT 1607 The component identifier is not registered

Hi,

I’m running a third party MSI (Infragistics NetAdvantage 2005 CLR 2.0); which worked in my XP; on my computer and it freezes when it gets to the end of the progress bar. After how many minutes a message appears “Windows Installer is not responding”, and I have to manually stop the process.

When I ran the MSI with the command-line for verbose logging and flushing to disk, the last thing it logs is error 1607 – “The component identifier is not registered ”. Does anyone knows how to make it work? Please. Computer details: Win 2000 SP4, Win Installer 3.1 v2, Visual Studio.net 2005.

Thanks.

Hello King,

You might be using a component that does not have a component ID, and for that reason it cannot be serviced. That usually occurs when fail to provide a component ID and as a result the component will not be registered. So, when Windows Installer attempts to find the state of that component then that component will be unknown to it.

Nicke
