I have installed visual studio 2010. When trying to open a Windows Phone 7 project , I received the following error message. “Zune software is not launched. Retry after making sure that Zune software is launched”. Why does this happen and how can I solve it?

I analyzed your error message and did some research – here's what you can do … The phone must be disconnected and then the Zune software must be closed. Try reconnecting your phone, then wait for a couple of minutes for Zune to initiate and show the phone summary page. You can also manually start the Zune software if it does not start automatically and then wait again for the phone summary page to be displayed.

First :- look at the toolbar at the top of visual studio windows
Second :- locate a pull down that selects between Windows phone 7 device and Windows 7 emulator
