I am attempting to update my iPhone but there is a gray error box that will appear with a message, "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. An unknown error occurred (9006). Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later." I tried again after some time but it's still the same. Is this an issue with my connection? Please send me some ideas on how to fix it. Thank you.

Most of the time, this type of error is associated specifically with the iTunes client. But first, since the error has something to do with the connection because iTunes can’t connect to the network and when this happens, there is probably something wrong with your internet connection. Make sure your computer has an active internet connection.

Open your web browser and try opening any website. You should see the page display normally. To check the speed of your connection, try visiting YouTube and stream some videos. This is just to test the speed of your connection. If you have a fast connection you will notice that the video buffers up fast but if in case you have a slow connection, the video sometimes encounter a problem or worst the video won’t buffer at all.

If you are doing this during peak hours or at night time, try doing it again during off peak hours or during day time so there will be less people connecting to the network and expect a better connection. If you are sure that you have a good connection, you should try updating iTunes and use the latest version. Download and install the latest version from Download iTunes 11.1.4.

Once installed, connect your iPhone to your computer and try updating it again.
