My monitor went crazy overnight and I am trying to figure out what went wrong because I can still create a 3840×1080 desktop, but the following message appeared: “The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your display port display. Your display might not support the requested resolution on there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer.” Can someone please help me?

Hi Nicholas,

A few factors may be causing this error. Here are a few I can give you:

1) Check the cable. Make sure that you are using a compatible Display Port cable from its original manufacturer to ensure that this is not the cause of the error. Inspect the cable for any frays or chipped parts.

2) A monitor that connects using a Display Port consumes more power than a regular monitor connected to just a DVI or VGA port. I would recommend connecting the monitor to a separate wall outlet or get a backup battery to ensure power levels are distributed evenly.

3) Check for any interference from any nearby electronic device. Phones are usually the culprit. Keep other electronic devices at least 2 feet away from the monitor to avoid issues like this.

I hope this helps.

Hi Nicholas,

This has been an ongoing issue with video cards if you are using DVI to DVI port or VGA to VGA port. What you can do is to double check the port from your video card box to your monitor, you can try to plug it in different ports to check if it is the port that causing the problem. You might want to also consider other video card in the market.
