I have MS-Works 9 installed on my computer and I have received MS-Word (.doc) files that cannot be open in MS-Works. Same thing happens when I save a .wps file on a CD then my computer got infected with virus so I decided to buy a new one. The new computer has MS-Word installed on it. I am trying to open .wps file from my CD with MS-Word but it doesn’t work. Now my question is how can I open .doc file in MS-Works and vice versa?

Hi…

.doc is the main file extension of the Microsoft Office 2003 application. And the .wps is the main file extension of the Microsoft Works. So any of these file types are not identical. You can open .doc and also .docx files in MS Word 2007 but not .wps files.

You also cannot open .doc or .docx files in MS Works application. So it occur a grad problem.

You can download Word Viewer free. But from it you can only read .wps files. You cannot do any editing process with it.

I found out an online converter. It will take your file convert it and then sent to your mail address.

If you have a DOC file (*.doc) or your Microsoft Office Word can only open and save in DOC format, that means you have Microsoft Office Word 2003 and I don’t think that version of Office Word can open Microsoft Works 9.0 files.

If you want to open Microsoft Works files on your Office Word, you need to upgrade your Office Word or the entire Microsoft Office suite to version 2007 or higher. Microsoft Office Word 2007 is capable of opening Microsoft Works files version 6.0 up to 9.0.

Microsoft Office Word 2007

Once you open the file, you can then save it as DOC (*.doc) or DOCX (*.docx) format so you can easily access the file in Office Word in the future. The DOC (*.doc) format is the default save format in Microsoft Office Word 2003 while the DOCX (*.docx) format is the default save format in Microsoft Office Word 2007 and higher.
