Hello,

There are various backup utilities available over the internet. One of them that is most renowned and open source tool named as “Amanda”. It provides you the facility to backup your files and folders over the network. It works on a client server architecture way just configure and run a backup server and install the clients from which you want to take backup Amanda will handle the rest. you can get Amanda from: http://amanda.zmanda.com/

if Amanda does not fulfill your needs then there are bundle of other software like "Bacula", "Box Backup" etc. here is a complete list of backup tools: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backup_software

Secondly about the scheduling of your data backup, it depends on type of your data if your data is very important then I suggest to take backup on regular daily basis otherwise twice a week would be sufficient. Taking backup once in a week is somewhat risky as there is a big gap between two backups.

Hope it helps.

Hello Amscott,

Which operating system are you using?

If it is windows that there is a backup utility that you can use to backup your data as frequently as you want. In windows 7 you can use the following procedure to perform the backup:

  • On your computer, type system backup in the search field and then press enter on the keyboard.
  • The system backup window will open and in it specify the backup point by clicking on 'set up a backup'
  • Windows will set up a backup of the files that you have.
  • just follow the process till it finishes.

It is that simple when you are using windows, I do not know about Linux yet.
