To run Adobe Photoshop CS5 on your PC 256 MB of RAM you have isn't enough. That is why your PC slowing down and you can't do anything. Adobe Photoshop CS5 requirements are Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64. Windows XP as in your case can be used only with service pack 3, and other options are Windows Vista or Windows 7. You will need 1 GB of RAM and at least 1 GB of free space on your hard drive. You will also need a quality graphics card and QuickTime 7.6.2 which is necessary for multimedia features. Display should be at least 1024×768.

Solution 1

Try to close all unwanted programs from Task Manager. Some program might be taking too much space. Try to disable anti-virus as it uses most of your RAM.

Solution 2

If still your Program is slow try this one.

Adobe Photoshop CS5 is a heavy program which takes minimum 512 MB of RAM to work . The configurations you have given are not much to run this software. RAM is one the most important component for the Software and applications. I recommend you to change RAM only, as your processor is still good for Adobe Photoshop CS5.

System Requirements for Adobe Photoshop CS5 :

1. Intel Pentium 4

2. Minimum RAM 1GB for smooth working.

3. 1 GB free space for installation.

5. Quick Time (Only for Multimedia Features).

Just change the RAM then surely it will work smoothly.

Solution 3

If you don’t want to change the RAM then use some down version like Adobe Photoshop CS3. It will work somehow better on 512 MB RAM.

Now, that’s the reason. You probably didn’t check the application’s system requirements before installing it on your computer. It is always very important to check on a program’s specifications before attempting any installation on your computer because you wouldn’t know if it is compatible or not.

The reason why your computer becomes almost unusable whenever you use it is because your memory or the physical RAM of your computer is way too small for the program. Adobe Photoshop CS5 requires at least 1 GB RAM and your computer only has about 25 percent (25%) of that minimum requirement. It is not possible to run the program with that kind of setup.

To fix the problem, upgrade the memory of your computer by adding more RAM. Adobe Photoshop CS5 supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista (Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise) Service Pack 1, and Windows 7.

It requires at least Intel Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 processor, 1 GB RAM, 1 GB hard drive space, 1024 x 768 screen resolution, video card with OpenGL 2.0 and Shader Model 3.0 support, and Apple QuickTime 7.6.2 or higher. With your computer’s configuration, shifting to Adobe Photoshop CS would be a great idea.
