Unfortunately, your copy of Authorware 7 is intended for the Windows operating system only, having an .exe file extension. All .exe programs (executable) from Windows when opened in a Mac will automatically be opened using TextEdit. If you really want to install it, you can either get another copy intended for Macintosh operating systems or use a program that can emulate installation of Windows programs like Parallels, Darwin and Crossover. About the three, Crossover is the most commonly used.

If you don’t really need to use Authorware (it has been discontinued for almost 6 years!) you can use other alternative Authoring tools like Authorware Pro and Director can get the job done easily, and they already have their versions for your chosen operating system, the Macintosh OS X.

Hope this helps!

If you want to install Adobe Authorware on a Mac computer, unfortunately, the standard application doesn’t have a Macintosh version. For users with Mac computer, your best alternative is the Adobe Authorware Web Player 7. This is designed for Macintosh PowerPC. For Windows users, download the Adobe Authorware Web Player 2004 which works on Windows 2000, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium, Windows NT 4, and Windows XP.

The Adobe Authorware is formerly called “Macromedia Authorware”. It is an interpreted flowchart-based graphical programming language used for creating interactive programs that is able to incorporate a range of multimedia content specifically e-learning or electronic educational technology. The flowchart model distinguishes Authorware from other authoring tools like Adobe Director and Adobe Flash which depend on script structure, visual stage, and timeline.
