These two terms, 32 bit and 64 bit, refer to the way a PC's processor (CPU) handles the information. It is true that 64 bit software operates with very large amounts of RAM, while a 32 bit version is slower. A 32 bit program won't slow the performance of your PC; it will be just a little slower when you run that application. The operating system is the one that can slow your entire computer's performance if it's 32 bit. 

How to see what kind of software do you have? It's pretty simple. Just click Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance   -> System. There you can see the system type.
