Every pc scan and repair program I find and use will ask me to pay to repair after the initial scan. Is there any on the market that are free and easy to use? Please also note I'm not interested in programs that are for a trial period, only free programs if that's possible please.

I opened a file in notepad and there is garbage. For this notepad problem hex editing might perhaps be required, do you think? Or is it just the wrong format (Unicode, ASCII, etc.)? What happens if a file in a different character set is loaded into notepad?

I am interested in opening Packard bell external disk to upgrade it to a larger hard disk size will the sata/ide (not sure which it is) to USB interface inside it be able to handle a larger disk size?
