We all know the well know fact that Xiaomi has become the third largest smartphone vendor in the world in just three years from its launch. Now it is said that Xiaomi is planning to manufacture its devices in India. It is also stated that they are looking for partners in India to assemble their phones. Is Xiaomi planning to set its mobile manufacturing unit in India? When?

Is Xiaomi planning to set its mobile manufacturing unit in India? When?

That’s true, China’s top mobile phone maker, Xiaomi, is planning to build devices in India. And they are eyeing on the inactive Nokia plant at Chennai. Xiaomi said they are now scouting for possible partners for building phones in India since it is their second biggest market. If this plan pushes through, it will boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign dubbed “Make in India” and this will also be the first instance of a top Chinese phone maker that will be manufacturing products in India.

Micromax, an Indian phone maker which only manufactures in China before, has also started making Smartphones in India which started in April of this year, 2014. At the moment, Xiaomi is only importing phones in India from its dealers in China. Xiaomi will look for partners that will help them in assembling the devices.

According to Xiaomi, they will be the one who will be designing the devices in terms of software and hardware while the partners can assist them in assembling the devices.
