Hi,

I am a long-time Windows XP user, and I have never had a problem with using my webcam with the my PC.

Recently, I got a new Win-XP PC, but I found that I could not use my webcam with it. Windows does not even detect the device.

If I open it in the Device Manager, I get a message: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer.

(Code 45)". I checked the connection of the webcam many times, but could not find any fault. What should I do?

You can resolve this problem with some recommended resolutions through Device Manager.

  • Right click on My Computer, and go to Properties.
  • Choose the Hardware tab, and then click on Device Manager.
  • Here a list of devices appears. The device has a red exclamation; it means this device is not attached. If a device is unknown or driver is not updated then the device has a yellow question mark.
  • Right-click the device that has the problem, and then clicks on Properties.  This will open the device Properties dialog box. Here an error code will be displayed in the Device status area of this dialog box.
  • You can Use the Troubleshooting Wizard. On the device Properties dialog box, click the General tab. Click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. The wizard asks you some simple questions and provides a solution to your problem based on the answers that you provide.
