It is closed automatically due to system overload, sometimes, image viewer are affected by the system overload. System overload is a too much heaviness that the computer is suffering, because of too much installed software.

Another reason that may cause of the sudden closing of your image viewer is the virus, make sure that you have an antivirus scanner so that you can protect your computer system from any unnecessary image. 

Recommendations:

1. Update your antivirus.
2. Free your computer from any heavy software, delete it if necessary.
3. Check your camera, if ever you upload the image by the use of the camera, because sometimes, camera carries a virus that may affect your computer.

That’s odd because it shouldn’t happen if there’s nothing wrong with the operating system. In Microsoft Windows, when you view an image from the Windows Explorer, the image will open using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer by default. And this window or the image will not close by itself automatically unless you close it yourself.

If the image closes automatically after a few seconds, this behavior is very odd. First, check your machine for any sign of infection. Download Sophos Virus Removal Tool and install it. Once installed, start Sophos then wait until its virus signature database gets updated. When updating is complete, click “Scan” to scan your machine. The tool will scan your entire computer including devices connected via USB port.

When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus. When the computer is already clean, try viewing an image again then see what happens. If this doesn’t work, try using the SFC utility. Click “Start,” “All Programs,” “Accessories” then right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator.”

For Windows XP, just run the command prompt. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. When you are prompted to insert the Windows setup CD or DVD, insert the disc on your optical drive and continue. When it is finished, close the command prompt then restart the computer. See if this works.
