Hello, TechyV!

A program on my PC got corrupted and I have uninstalled it. I have lost the original disc but I have a source online with updated versions. After I downloaded the file, I tried reinstalling it but Windows Installer blocked it with this error message.

The file is valid but Windows Installer doesn't seem to recognize it. Any ideas? Thank you for your help.

Verify if the application that you recently downloaded still supports your current operating system. There are times when the latest version of the software no longer supports the current version of Windows you have. In this case, it’s up to you to decide whether to upgrade the version of Windows you are using or use the quite older version of the application that still supports your operating system.

You might also want to check the installed version of Windows Installer your computer has. If you still have Windows Installer 3.1, it has already an updated version, Windows Installer 3.1 v2 which can be downloaded at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/893803/windows-installer-3-1-v2-3-1-4000-2435-is-available. This recent update is only available for these versions of operating systems:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and 4

Windows XP Service Pack 1 and 2 or later

Windows Server 2003

Try updating Windows Installer and then install your application again.

It seems that you downloaded a web installer file or it can also be a malicious software.

Solution 1: The installation files are not just available anymore and that is a problem. Try searching on other websites and make sure that you select a file that doesn't need the internet to be installed anymore. This way it will just be installed directly in your computer system.

Solution 2: If you can't find one of this software that you are looking for then I suggest that you just buy another one. Look through the web or the store in your community. Or ask someone if he or she still has the software. It might be an old software so it might really be hard to find.
