Nanosys and 3M will be joining forces to bring a better viewing experience to LCDs. The companies will be using quantum dots to enhance picture quality. Does quantum dots will be producing more colors than what we currently have? And is it eco-friendly?

Will the collaboration of Nanosys and 3M increase the quality of LCDs?

Hi Amy, yes, Nanosys and 3M are joining forces in technology to give 50% more  color on the display of LCD known as Liquid Crystal Display. 

The Nanosys Inc. and the Optical division of 3M to commercialized the quantum dot experience. Quantum dot is a portion of matter whose excisions are confined in three spatial dimensions. It is an agent for medical imaging and hope to use this in qubits in quantum computing. 

Quantum dot is a semiconductor whose electronic is closely related to its own crystal. Hence, the smaller the quantum dot, the higher the energy. This is the reason why the color is enhanced and seems real.

Scientists used quantum dots for tumor targeting, under the stable condition of polymer coatings, it is nontoxic.
