Why will Comcast shut down its TiVo?

A friend told me that comcast will be shutting down Vivo. Is it because of Comcast's new VOD?

Will it affect my subscription to the old TiVo and will it automatically change the old TiVo to VOD?

Why will Comcast shut down its TiVo?

According to a source in the TiVo tech support, Comcast may have updated the firmware on their cable boxes and shut down the serial ports. However they still have not figured out why it reduced the functionality of the boxes. Apparently the error on Comcast part and they are hopefully they will fix it because if it was done on purpose then TiVo users will be forced to switch to  IR cables which are much slower. On the other hand there have been unconfirmed rumors that Comcast might have done it on purpose to prompt their TiVo users to pay their unsettled dues. Both way, the problem will be fixed soon and I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
