Bios aka “Basic input/output system” or “boot loader” is a piece of software written on a chip hardwired to your motherboard that controls the basic input/output system of your pc.
The reason it’s so important is that without BIOS the operating system won’t be able to communicate with other pieces of hardware installed on your PC, “ex: the windows won’t be able to communicate the mouse and monitor …etc. and use them”.
In my opinion, updating the bios should not be done unless it’s very necessary because if the updating process fails, your motherboard may not work again.
Usually you need to update your bios information to fix a common bug or adding support to new processor or hard drive capacity.
Finally you should only use the software updater that supported by the manufacture of your motherboard “only” to make sure it’s reliable and well tested.

Since the purpose of this update is to initialize and test the system hardware components; its quiet useful when you insert a new device / hardware in your system which needs recognition and this can happen only when you have an updated BIOS update.
