Why does the pagefile.sys is on my other drive?

I just discovered that the pagefile.sys is on my drive E instead of drive C. Is this ok?

I'm just wondering, why this is located on my other drive and it consumes disk space.

Is your drive E a partition on the same disk?

If so, you won’t notice a performance leap.

But if it is on another disk, there will be a performance gain.

The only solution to your problem is to format the entire hard drive, you won’t be able to move or delete the pagefil by booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

I have not tried to play with paging files before.

But I'd suggest you to you use the safe mode with CMD, if you want to move the File.

Hope this will help you.

OK thanks.  I will try to boot in Safe Mode with command prompt.

Hope this will work.

I just want to move the pagesys file to C.

Booting into Safe Mode with command prompt didn't work. I was able to see the pagefile.sys file but when I tried to delete it, I got a message that said, it was in use. So the page file is even in use when XP is in safe mode.

Hi Ronalds,

I'm pretty sure, that booting in Safe Mode with command prompt  will not work to transfer or delete the pagefile. The only solution is to format your hard drive. That's the only way. Believe me.

You're right. Even if I MOVE it using the safe mode; it fails to transfer the file.

May be the only way is to format. I will back up my files first and format my disk.

Thanks
