I recently got a new Apple MacBook pro with Mac snow leopard on it, it came with safari browser which is really fast browser for Mac, but unfortunately I’m stuck with Mozilla Firefox as my favorite browser, so that I’m planning to install it beside safari, will install more than one browser slow down or affects the internet connectivity?

There are only subtle differences between those two browsers because browsers came along from where they were. They both have a minimalist design which is very common in browsers today, they are all very fast but there is a small difference in speed. But Firefox has more extensions to install. As for installing a second browser your computer should not slow down or will it be affecting your internet connectivity.

In your case, there's no any difference by installing a new browser into your new Apple MacBook. Although Safari browser is pre-defined in every MacBook, but installing other web browser will not affect any performance issue when it comes to internet browsing. You should only need to maintain a better bandwidth to have a faster internet browsing.
The good thing about Safari is that is up-to-date and probably your MacBook has an automatic update applied to it. Unlike in Mozilla Firefox, you need to manually update all add-ins or you need another software for this task on behalf of you.
Therefore it all comes down to your internet service provider.

Safari as you know is apple's default web browser. This being Mac OS, they will definitely make it a better and much faster browser on their products be it an iPhone, iPod, iPad or a Mac computer.
Same applies to other operating systems, say windows. Safari will be slower than internet explorer or Firefox browser on windows.
My opinion is safari is faster in a Mac OS than Firefox. However, installing Firefox will not interfere with the operations of the safari browser.
