You can format your memory card by using the computer only.

1. Insert your memory card in the computer

2. Open My Computer

3. Select your memory card and right click

4. Choose format

5. Click start

Once it's done, the memory card is ready to use again.

There is also a software that can be used for this as well as for recovering deleted files.

You can download it from this link

The software is free and easy to use.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you want to use an advanced memory card formatter for your memory card, you can use SD Formatter 4.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC. This application formats memory cards with types such as SD, SDHC, and SDXC. It gives an easy and fast access to the complete capabilities of the memory cards.

Like most users don’t know, formatting your memory card from your operating system using the usual tools to format any media can decrease the performance of the memory card that’s why it is not recommended. Like for example, if you’ll be using the same formatting method done when formatting a hard drive or a USB flash drive on your memory card, your memory card will perform in a less optimal way.

That’s why it is important to use a special program such as this when formatting a memory card to open the memory card’s full capabilities. For Windows users, it supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. This is for the SD and SDHC types. If you’ll be formatting SDXC memory card, your Windows XP should be running on Service Pack 2 and higher and Windows Vista is in Service Pack 1 or higher.

Windows XP should also have the exFAT support. For Mac users, it supports Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Lion, and 10.8 Mountain Lion.
