Where can I find a source code for map creation software?

Hallo there!

I have an ongoing school project which requires map creation and we are encouraged to each study a map creation software in terms of its user interface and the internal functionalities, put down ideas and combine them to develop a saleable business idea for a map creation software development. Who has an idea of a simple but fully functional map creation application that I can use for my study?

Where can I find a source code for map creation software?

Hello,

Map creation tools are available and were uploaded on internet servers , what I know is called "Tekla BIMsigh", it is free and you can get it tutorials to know how can you use its user interface, you can download it and follow video and screenshot in Tekla BIMsight website and create successful experiment or simulation, the link is http://helpcenter.teklabimsight.com/getStarted.jsp?gclid=CMavkI3Jh7cCFUGR3godrzcAXg

Some people use Photoshop for building maps, but it is a very hard way, the second map creation which I recommend is GIMP It is the normal map creator that many people use, see it's tutorial which were uploaded at many sites. I advice you to be interested when you read or try to learn any one of them because both have more options to be used.

There are a lot of open source software application over the Web that you can do research and download from. Here are some open source software for Mapping that you can find useful for your study:

•  Geographic Information System (GIS) applications such as FlowMap, GMT, GRASS, gvSIG, MapWindow GIS, OpenJUMP GIS and Web Mapping applications.
• Global Positioning System (GPS) software applications for navigation such as vlkGPS, Open GPS Tracking System, GPX Editor, and many more.
• Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) open source for developed software technologies.
