It's better than other older version of iPad by having better processor and screen and weight, other than that there is not much to tell.
The iPad air comes with iOS7 so not all the application has to be different from other iPadsbut as time goes developer will built apps for this and Apple itself will stop supporting older iPad and applications related to it.
