Error 404 on a web page or on HTTP means that the client can communicate with the server however the server can’t do as requested. That is because the server can’t find anything matching the request made. This happens if the website you are trying to access is down, or no longer available. To fix the Error code 404:

  1. Check the URL. Make sure that the URL of the website you are trying to access is spelled correctly. An extra letter, symbol, or even number can make a big difference and will automatically give you the 404 error code
  2. Troubleshoot it by moving backward along the URL being requested

The “error 404” you received on your web browser when you visit a website means that the requested website or page is not available. To simplify it, it is unreachable. But don’t expect that every time you see this error it already means that there is a problem with the website. It doesn’t always work that way. There are times the problem may have originated from your own connection or with your network and the website is perfectly up and running.

To check if there is a problem with your connection after seeing the “404 error”, visit other websites after failing on the other website. If there’s no problem with the other websites then your connection is running good. Next to check is the URL of the page you are visiting or the web address of the website that failed. If you manually typed it on the address bar, it’s possible that you entered it incorrectly. It’s like having incorrect spellings on the URL. The URL you enter should appear exactly how it is in the original web page.

If there’s no problem with the spelling of the URL then maybe the website is really down possibly having site maintenance. If this is the case, just try visiting it again some other time or maybe the following day. Or if it is only a resource page, it is possible that the page you are requesting has been moved to a different location that’s why it can’t be found or it is also possible that the page has already been deleted due to lack of activity.

Greeting Techyv.com and other contributors too. I like to single out Sharath comments as the most impressive because it gave me a lot of ideas by providing the best tips on how to solve the issue. The comment helped me to become conscious about “error 404” which was not known to me previously. It is a very common error; often we can see this during surfing. Your recommendation was that “error 404” means the requested website or page is not available. You have also advised me to check my net connection which was really useful tips, because sometimes I forget to do that. With your apt comment I have come to the conclusion that this problem isn’t my PC and now no more fear with this error. Thanks Reddy as well Techyv also.
