What Is An IOT Device

IoT stands for Internet of things it completely implies a network of Internet-connected objects that can exchange data. Internet of things has mainly two parts the backbone of connectivity and object/devices. IoT device includes computer devices, software, wireless sensor, etc. All these devices are connected to a particular object that operates through the internet.

There is a various example of IoT devices which include smart TV, smart speaker, toys, and many more. A smart speaker can include Alexa when a user speaks the speaker responds to it. There is a smart TV that switches on and off automatically based on the commands.

IoT consists of three main parts: Sensors, Network connectivity, and data storage applications.

There are four IoT protocol layers:

  • Sensing and information: this includes most smart sensor devices like Wi-Fi.
  • Network connectivity: this is based on a wired and wireless network such as WLAN, Ethernet.
  • Information processing layer.
  • Application layer.

Data protection and secrecy are major concerns related to IoT as these devices are extremely simple to hack with the help of their IP addresses. All the interacting you do with IoT devices should be completely verified with passwords and fingerprints. Antivirus software must be downloaded, and adequate firewalls must be maintained.
